Play with Interdisciplinary Concepts on Open-Ended Challenges

What can my child expect to learn and do in the holiday program?

Don’t worry, your child is not going to be an assembling worker in our robotics lessons, following assembling and coding instructions strictly to build a robot.

In fact, your child will learn useful concepts through application-based tasks to enable them to evaluate the outcome (cause & effect), to deepen their understanding. These concepts are applicable to their academic pursue too. In the progress, they will form a robust understanding on the crucial working mechanism of a functional robot – in coding and the appropriate components use.

To end the 2-day sessions meaningfully, they will apply the learned concepts and building techniques to attempt a short open-ended mission.

What kind of skills will they develop?

As they work through the activities, learners practise thinking through problems step by step. They’ll plan their approach, test their robot, and make changes to improve their performance.

Learning outcomes:

  • Achieve a good grasp of the foundational coding concepts to move the robot accurately

  • Strengthening number reasoning skills through estimation

  • Applying fractions and converting it to decimals for coding parameters

  • Construct a basic robot through selecting appropriate LEGO Technic components and building techniques

  • Attempt a short mission by planning, testing, and refining their solution

  • Experience first-hand on how interdisciplinary STEM concepts work together in the robot’s performance

  • Adapt good thinking habits on approaching open-ended challenges, laying the foundation of building a higher order thinking skills.

Small groups of up to 4 learners per session.
