STEM Programs - School Holiday Edition
Our WeDo & Spike Prime robotics programs - holiday edition - are suitable for children between 6 to 12 years old.
The lessons enable the students to have hands-on experiential learning on
-
building robots with proper technique
-
the application of interdisciplinary STEM concepts in robotics
-
the application of coding concepts for the robot movement.
To maximise their learning and benefit from the lessons, where concepts are delivered verbally & pictorially, students are required to have a high level of concentration during lessons.
Class size is limited to 4 -5 students and the availability is on a first come first serve basis. Please confirm your child's registration early!
WeDo 2.0 Robotics
For 6-year-old
WeDo robotics (holiday edition) is ideal to kick-start robotics learning for 6-year-olds!
The majority of the students in this age group would be new to robotics, thus the lessons are structured to enable them to learn & apply proper robot building techniques, basic coding concepts and the application of the sensors. The coding blocks are pictorial using ‘drag & drop’ method to construct the coding string, which is easy for the students to understand and apply.
The robots are interesting to build and the students would learn & understand from the application on how the sensors, belt & pulley system, gears and coding concepts, work together in the respective robots to execute the required task(s).

WeDo 2.0 Scratch Robotics
For 7-year-old
WeDo Scratch robotics (holiday edition) is ideal to kick-start robotics learning for 7-year-olds!
The lessons illustrate the application of Scratch coding in WeDo robotics using text-based coding blocks to construct the coding stack. Students would also learn to use decimal numbers, angles and inequality symbols (greater and less than) in the parameter of the code, to enable the robot to execute specific task(s).
The robots are interesting to build and the students would learn & understand from the application on how the sensors, belt & pulley system, gears and coding concepts, work together in the respective robots to execute the required task(s).

Spike Prime Robotics
For 8 years old & above
Spike Prime robotics sessions are ideal to kick-start the robotics learning experience for children 8-years & older!
The Basic Movement session emphasizes the coding concepts using Scratch coding platform for Spike Prime. The students will learn & apply coding concepts to move and turn the robot accurately using specific duration in seconds/ centimeters/ rotation/ degrees. Some simple arithmetic calculations, decimal numbers and angles will be illustrated for them to obtain/ use as the value for the code’s parameter.
In the Continue Mission sessions, the students have to conceive an idea for their robot after analysing their mission’s requirements & constraints.
They build their robot according to their own idea and not follow any standard instructions as there are none provided. Thereafter, the students have to map-out the best route for their robot to move to the mission site to execute the mission.
Once they have the route in mind, they can then code to achieve their robot’s movement accuracy. In the trial runs, the students will go through an iteration of observations & fine-tuning of both their robot’s features and codes, to accomplish the mission successfully.
Such experiential learning immerses the students with interdisciplinary concepts in the realm of STEM, will strengthen their analytical, logical & critical thinking skills. It will also enable them to realise that inventiveness and pragmatism need to go hand in hand while creating their solution from scratch.

No prior robotics experience is needed to enroll in this program. If your child has Mindstorms or Spike Prime robotics prior experience and would like to join this program, we can conduct a free assessment to ascertain his or her competency to enable us to recommend a suitable level for the continuation.
